Headlands Brewing is a craft brewery guided by the belief that a better world is brewing. Rooted in the East Bay and inspired by Northern California’s coast, the brewery weaves environmental advocacy into everything it does, from the grain in the kettle to the packaging on the shelf. With strong production standards and a clear commitment to giving back, Headlands stands out as a regional leader in using craft beer to support ecological restoration.
The Sustainability Print:
Headlands powers its brewing operations with 100% renewable electricity, significantly lowering the carbon footprint of its facilities and taprooms. As a member of 1% for the Planet, the brewery donates at least 1% of all sales to environmental nonprofits. Since joining in 2022, they have contributed over $200,000 to local environmental organizations. In 2023, they switched from plastic paktech carriers to paper can collars, cutting single-use plastic use by 95%. Their production facility uses a water recovery process that reduces water usage at their Pittsburg brewery by more than 50%, and their taprooms use compostable plates and silverware throughout.
A Study in Sourcing: From Earth to Beer
Headlands sources ingredients in ways that protect California’s soil and watersheds, and participates in the Earth to Beer campaign alongside 40+ breweries dedicated to sustainable business practices.
Headlands Brewing sets a strong example of incentivized eco-engagement. They host annual Earth Day events and bring their community together for shoreline cleanups and removing invasive species, turning customers into active conservation partners. Their support of local food banks through Giving Tuesday proceeds and their growing portfolio of cause-driven collaborations show that a brewery can meaningfully support both social and environmental resilience, one pint at a time.
